Dear Mosaic Family, As we continue our "Prodigal" sermon series tomorrow, we'll look at a man who lived a life "prodigal" toward himself. Zacchaeus was one of the richest and most powerful people in the Gospels. He recklessly made money (for himself) and he recklessly spent money (on himself). He loved money and used people. But he realized that he had devolved into a shallow, selfish, lonely, unhappy, dissatisfied person. So, "he was looking to see who Jesus was." With the same recklessness Zacchaeus had sought to find physical treasure, he now seeks to find spiritual treasure in Christ. Once he meets Jesus, his value system is radically transformed because regeneration always leads to generosity.
Scripture promises us that if we seek God with all our heart and all our soul, we will find him. However, the problem is, no one does! Even the best of us seeks God only half-heartedly since there are always idols vying for our deepest affections. The rest of us can't find God for the same reason a criminal can't find a policeman. So prior to us finding God, something else needs to happen: He needs to find us and transform us with his love and grace. In the story of Zacchaeus, we see a Prodigal God who recklessly pursues us, through His Son Jesus, who seeks and saves the lost.
Join us tomorrow as we study the fascinating account of Jesus' encounter with Zacchaeus. Praying for you, Pastor Jan
