Meet the staff: Ivey Rhodes, Church Planting Resident

From its conception, Mosaic Boston Church has had a vision to be a body of believers on mission – a mission to love Jesus, and to plant churches around the city – ”a church plant with a vision to church plant,” as Pastor Jan says.To do that, we need manpower! God has provided us with our first church planting resident. Ivey and Allie Rhodes and their four children – Maggie, Quentin, Levi and Olan – arrived on Sept. 2 to partner with Mosaic while actively cultivating relationships in the area.

The Rhodes family is originally from Charleston, South Carolina. Ivey recently completed his Master of Divinity at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Raleigh, North Carolina, and he and his wife have significant church planting experience. While they plan to plant a church here in Boston in the future, Ivey will partner with Mosaic in a yearlong residency program in order to learn the ropes of church planting and acclimate to city life. His salary will be covered by the North American Mission Board, Mosaic’s fundraising partnerships, and personal fundraising efforts.

While at Mosaic, Ivey will serve through preaching, teaching, leading community groups and other pastoral roles.

As Pastor Jan has said, Mosaic Boston is gearing up to plant its next church. Planting a successful, sustainable, multiplying church plant takes a core group of 50 or more committed members. For us to send that many committed members without irreparably stifling our own momentum, we need to have at least 500 people in attendance on a given Sunday.

And we are almost there! This summer, we averaged more than 360 people in worship on Sundays, which is a whopping 50% more than this time last year. This fall, we could reach more than 500. Best of all, we've already had more baptisms this year, than all of last year combined!

We ask that you warmly welcome Ivey Rhodes, pray for his ministry and consider partnering with him and with us in the work of church planting – and continue to intercede for the planting of another church body in Boston.
