Escape the #1 Cause of Death

Dear Mosaic Family,

Did you know that the number one cause of death in the United States is heart disease? As the year ends and a new one begins, many begin to remember their health. Many of us would like to be healthier in the new year and we start thinking about the changes we would like (or need) to make, especially when it comes to heart health. Doctors tell us that lifestyle and dietary modifications can dramatically reduce the risk of heart disease, including: eating a healthy diet, regular exercise, and reduction in stress.

As important as the health of your physical heart is, the health of your spiritual heart is exponentially more important. Physically, many of us are in pristine shape. Spiritually, however, for many of us, our hearts may be barely pumping. The primary indicator of good spiritual heart health is joy. Joy is a sign of a healthy heart, and by extension, a lack of joy is a symptom of an unhealthy heart. Joy is more than happiness, just as happiness is more than pleasure. Pleasure is felt in the body; happiness is felt in the mind and feelings. Joy, however, is felt deep in the heart, deep in the core of your soul.

How’s your heart? How’s your joy? When the Angel brought news of the first Christmas to the Shepherds, he said, “Behold, I bring you good news of great joy.” Not minor joy. Not small joy. Not modest joy. But “great joy.” Jesus came to bring us this joy, an indestructible joy, “No one will take your joy from you.”

Join us tomorrow as we study Isaiah 9:1-7, and rejoice in our Savior!

Praying for you!Pastor Jan
