Advent: Hope

Dear Mosaic Family,

I can't believe it, but people already have their Christmas trees up! Thanksgiving has come and gone, and Advent season is upon us. If you aren't familiar with Advent, it's like Lent, but before Christmas instead of Easter. The word "Advent" comes from the Latin word "Adventus," meaning "coming" or "arrival. It begins the 4th Sunday before Christmas and ends on Christmas Day. Advent is a celebration of the first coming of Jesus and the anticipation of his second coming.

For the next four Sundays, we will meditate on the liturgical Advent themes: Hope, Love, Joy, and Peace. Tomorrow, we'll look at the story of Zechariah and Elizabeth, two faithful, God-fearing and God-loving saints, who had devoted their whole lives to serving the Lord selflessly. However, despite all of their faithfulness and all of their prayers, they didn't have any kids, though they desperately longed to. They begged God and begged God, but all they got in response was silence. The situation seemed utterly hopeless... until God showed up.

Join us tomorrow as we meditate on Luke 1, and remind ourselves that through Jesus Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit, God the Father can turn hopeless despair into hope-filled joy.

Praying for you,
Pastor Jan
