Introducing Jesus: The Gospel of Luke

Dear Mosaic Boston Family,

I heard a John Lennon quote one time, which I think profoundly describes the human experience. He said, "Part of me suspects that I'm a loser, and the other part of me thinks I'm God almighty." This brilliant little nugget encapsulates our schizophrenic inferiority and superiority complex. On the one hand, we absolutely know we do not measure up. We are not enough. We're not good enough, smart enough, pretty enough, talented enough, etc. So we're all deeply insecure. On the other hand, we're absolutely convinced that we're awesome. We totally know how our life should go.  We totally know how to fix the world. Why aren't we in charge, again? Why hasn't everyone noticed how amazing we are? If some have, why haven't the rest?!?

How did we ever get in this sordid predicament? Holy Scripture is so helpful here: God has created each us for glory... for His glory. We are glorious to the extent that we live for his glory, and we become ever more glorious, the more we behold his glory. However, we have rejected his Godhood, for our own. We prefer to be God. This is the superiority complex. We like being in control. We hate being told what to do. Unfortunately, each of us is terrible at being God. Thus is the inferiority complex.

Is there any hope for us? I'm so glad you asked! Join us tomorrow as we allow the Holy Scriptures to reintroduce Jesus to us, fully God, fully man, who came to save us from both our superiority complex (He is our Lord) and our inferiority complex (He is our Savior). We'll be in Luke 3 tomorrow. You can read ahead here

Praying for you!
Pastor Jan
