We're here. We're gone. We're there.
Dear Mosaic Family,
One of Satan's most compelling lies is that this life is all there is, therefore make the most of it. Protect your life from any harm, and don't risk it in any way, even for a seemingly noble cause. Live for yourself; protect yourself; enjoy yourself. Grab life by the horns, enjoy the ride, never think about the end, because that's too depressing. Since there's nothing more valuable than your life, you've got nothing to die for. If you've got nothing to die for, you've got nothing to live for.
This lie is so compelling, because it's wrapped in so much truth. Life is short. That's a fact. James 4:14 says "For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes." Vapor. We are a transient wisp of fog. Death comes like a flood. This life is like sleeping. We are grass that grows green then withers. Our life is like a dream, Moses says. No matter how good it is, it ends. Then what?
Satan's response: nothing. There's nothing after death. You disappear. Stop asking questions. If we pause ourselves and push pause on all our distractions, and meditate upon this question, we'll soon realize, this lie is foreign to us. It comes from outside of us. If you pause and meditate, you'll find "Eternity" is written on your heart (Ecc. 3:11). There's an indelible yearning in our hearts for more than this life. You will live forever. You and God are eternal. We either live with God on His terms (as friends in heaven) or on yours (as enemies in hell)... forever.
So, Quo vadis? Where are you going? Satan wants your eyes fixed on the material, and the material only. He wants you veering off course, either slightly right, or slightly left. God tells us to set our minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. Are your eyes set above? To truth North? Only then, will we be able to "number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom." (Psalm 90:12).
Join us tomorrow as we study the weighty Psalm 90.
Praying for you all,
Pastor Jan
