Glorious Reunion

Dear Mosaic Family,

Some of the most heartwarming videos you can watch are those, where a soldier returns home from war, and surprises loved ones. There's bear-hugs, crocodile-tears, and showers of kisses and affection. Seeing loved ones reunited, after a season where there was a real possibility of death, is one of the sweetest sights to behold.

In Genesis 46, we read about the glorious reunion between Jacob and his beloved son Joseph. Jacob had lived over 20 years believing his son Joseph wasn't just at war and potentially coming back. No, Jacob believed his son was dead. Seeing Joseph was like seeing a man come back from the dead.

Genesis 46:29-30 narrates the reunion: Then Joseph prepared his chariot and went up to meet Israel his father in Goshen. He presented himself to him and fell on his neck and wept on his neck a good while. Israel said to Joseph, “Now let me die, since I have seen your face and know that you are still alive.”

Truly, one of the most beautiful reunions in all of Scripture. In Luke 15, Jesus tells us of another reunion of a father and son. Except in that story, the son wasn't sold into slavery by his brothers, but was enslaved by his own sin. Once the prodigal son becomes broke and comes to his senses, he heads home, rehearsing his repentance over and over.

Luke 15:20-24 says: And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him. And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet. And bring the fattened calf and kill it, and let us eat and celebrate. For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.’ And they began to celebrate.

God is our heavenly Father. We have sinned against Him. But thanks be to His Son, Jesus Christ, we can be reconciled with the Father. All we have to do is come home.
