What is God's Will for Your Life?
Dear Mosaic Boston Family,
This Sunday, we're excited to introduce Andy Hoot, who will be joining our staff this fall as Pastoral Resident. Andy was an original member of Mosaic Boston in 2011, where he met his wife, Joyce, at community group. They have a 2-year-old son, Drew. Last summer, Andy joined us as a Pastoral Resident Intern, when he preached, aided with Sunday services and got a feel for ministry at Mosaic. Andy is nearly completed with his Master of Divinity program at Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary.
He will be visiting from Pittsburgh to preach this Sunday, so if you haven't had a chance to meet him, please introduce yourself.
This week, he'll be preaching on discerning God's will for your life.
"I grew up playing a lot of soccer. Unlike football, basketball and baseball, in which every play, possession and pitch is precisely planned, soccer is very free-flowing. There are no called or pre-planned plays. A soccer player has to learn how to position himself or herself on-the-go in relation to the constant movement of the ball, teammates and opposing players. The difference of being good and great at soccer is largely dependent on a player’s ability to instinctively be at the right place at the right time.
"If you’ve been a Christian for any amount of time, you know that the Christian life is a lot like soccer. It’s difficult to know if you’re in the right place at the right time. It seems that once you’re in the right spot you have to adjust to challenges, unforeseen circumstances or difficult decisions. You’re often left asking, 'Is this really God’s will for my life? What does God want me to do? Should I be where I am?'
Whether you’re asking these question in regard to big decisions or small decisions right now, Romans 12:1-2 tells us that there is a way to get better at discerning God’s will. If you want to find out how, please join us for worship this Sunday."
