New DNA

Dear Mosaic Family,

Four years ago, Chris Long of Reno, Nevada, suffering from acute myeloid leukemia and myelodysplastic syndromes, underwent a bone marrow transplant.

Three months after the transplant, Long learned the DNA in his blood had changed. It had been replaced by the DNA of his donor, a German man whom Long had never met. After the news, Long said, "I thought that it was pretty incredible that I can disappear and someone else can appear."

“We were kind of shocked that Chris was no longer present at all,” said Darby Stienmetz, a criminalist at the Washoe County sheriff’s office. The implications of Long's case have captured the interest of DNA analysts worldwide.

The case is a remarkable illustration for what happens when someone becomes a child of God. When God's Word is planted in our hearts, we get a heart transplant. God removes our heart of stone and replaces it with a heart of flesh. Our spiritual DNA changes, so to speak. We become partakers of His divine nature. The Apostle John writes, "See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are... beloved, we are God's children now" (1 John 3:1-2). We are not just called God's children, legally speaking. The Christian becomes a true child of God, with God's DNA in our veins.

Join us tomorrow as we marvel at the beauty of becoming a child of God, as we study 1 John 2:28-3:10.

With Love,
Pastor Jan
