The Greatest Sermon Ever Preached

Dear Mosaic Family,

Tomorrow, we're kicking off a sermon series through the greatest sermon ever preached, the Sermon on the Mount, by the greatest to ever preach, Jesus Christ. This sermon is a manifesto of the Christian life. It is Jesus' description of what He wants His followers to be and do, in light of who Christ is and what He has done for us.

We'll be studying the "introduction" to the Sermon, tomorrow, found in Matthew 5:1-12. Jesus begins the sermon by describing the disposition of the blessed person. Do you consider yourself blessed? What does the blessed life look like? Deep inside, each one of us knows true blessing isn't material (although all too often we forget). True blessing is spiritual. True blessing doesn't come with a different position in life, but a different posture of heart. What posture is that? It's a posture that brings us closer to God, the source of all blessedness. God is our greatest blessing. The closer you get to God, the more you experience His godlike blessedness and joy.

How do we do that? The answer is simple, though certainly not easy. The answer is: repent for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand. Repentance is how we enter the Kingdom of God. Repentance is how we grow as citizens of the Kingdom. What does this repentance look like? The Beatitudes. Blessed are the poor in spirit, those who mourn, the meek, those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, the merciful, the pure in heart, the peacemakers. This is how Jesus describes the posture of heart ready to receive true blessedness.

With Love,

Pastor Jan
