One Soul at a Time

Dear Mosaic Family,

I remember when we just started Mosaic, lots of people would ask me what's the secret to our growth. I never really had a good answer for them. My response was always: "One Soul at a Time." When I was in seminary, I wanted to study how Jesus Christ did ministry. Clearly, whatever He did was incredibly effective. He didn't just change the world during His lifetime. His life transformed the world for millennia to come. How did He do that? What was His secret? What were His priorities? What did He focus on?

In our text for tomorrow, (Matthew 4:11-25), we see the priorities of Jesus' ministry. He preaches the Gospel, He makes disciples, and He meets people's needs. Simple. The very first sermon Jesus preaches in the Gospel of Matthew is summarized with the phrase: "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." Then we see Jesus focusing on making disciples who make disciples: "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." Then Jesus proceeds to travel throughout Galilee and meet people's practical needs: "healing every disease and every affliction among the people."

Sometimes we overthink church ministry and our personal service to the Lord. God loves blessing churches that do God's work, God's way: preach the Gospel, make disciples, meet people's need. To the glory of God!

With Love,

Pastor Jan
