Jesus take my life (savings)

Dear Mosaic Family,

As we prepare for Thanksgiving, this is a wonderful time to pause and reflect on God's extravagant generosity to us. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of the year, mostly because I don't have to do much, and I don't have to buy gifts for anyone. It's just a time to reflect on just how much we have to be thankful for, thanks be to God!

Here's the text for Sunday's sermon, please read, study, mediate, and come Sunday ready to hear from the Lord: 2 Corinthians 9.

Also, I'll do my best to have a Sermon Study Guide ready for you every Friday. I pray it's edifying.

As you study the text and the sermon guide, please wrestle with the question: am I generous toward God, His people, and Gospel work? Generosity toward God begins with every dollar you give on top of the tithe God expects you to give to your local church.

Do you tithe, dear Christian? Tithing is giving 10% of your earnings before the IRS gets their slimy hands on it. Not 10% from take-home pay. To tithe, you first need to know exactly how much you earn. Sit down, calculate everything. Earnings from work, from side-hustles, from investments, from salary, from crypto, from rentals, from everything. Know exactly how much you’re making. Then pledge to give the firstfruits to the Lord. At least 10%. Where? To your local church. I hear of members in the church who send money overseas, because they think we’re all set here. Sure, send money overseas, after your tithe to your local church first. Also, we are one of the least Christian cities in the nation. Did you know Mosaic Boston is one of the largest churches in the Boston area? If you’re from America, and you immigrate to Boston, you realize just how weird that is.

So when you get "giving Tuesday" emails next week, make sure you first have given the full tithe to your local church. Then ask, have I been generous to my local church (giving in excess of the tithe)? If you say yes to both questions, give to our "Legacy Fund" (our real estate fund) so Mosaic Boston can start planning to build/acquire a home for our church family.

Mosaic Boston, I'm thankful for you. We've come a long way, praise God. Just to get a glimpse of how far we've come, have a listen to one of the earliest sermons I preached at Mosaic Boston.

With love,

Pastor Jan
