You Must Be Perfect.

Dear Mosaic Family,

This Sunday we’ll be looking at Matthew 5:33-38. In the conclusion to this section concerning the Law, Jesus summarizes everything he’s said up to this point with this command,

48 You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. Matthew 6:43-48

At first glance this is a crushing demand. We may be tempted to dismiss it as delusional optimism, or sensational sentiment, but Jesus means what he says. To follow Jesus we must have a "righteousness that surpasses that of the pharisees and the scribes,” and we must pursue perfection.

So how on earth can Jesus expect us to fulfill this? What hope do we have of ever living up to this impossible standard? That’s what we’ll be talking about this week as we dive into this very challenging text together. Please, take some time to read through the Sermon on the Mount, and join us for worship this Sunday at 9:30AM or 11:30AM.

Also, as a reminder to the Covenant Members of Mosaic, our first quarterly Members’ Meeting will be this Sunday at 3pm. We can’t wait to see you there for an important time of fellowship and prayer!

With Love,

Pastor Shane
