Faith is like Foundation Replacement

Dear Mosaic Family,

What's the most important part of the house? Is it the roof? Is it the kitchen? Is it the plumbing? Electrical work? No. The most important part of a house is the foundation. Without a solid foundation, everything else crumbles. This is how Jesus taught us to think about faith. Jesus said "Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock." Faith is hearing God's Word and trusting it with our whole existence. Faith is placing the full weight of our existence on the foundation of God's Word.

If this is what fully formed faith looks like, what does growing faith look like? Growing faith looks like the foundation replacement of an existing house. Have you ever seen the foundation replaced on an existing house? It's mind-blowing. Basically, you need to lift the house up with hydraulic push piers, helical piers, or drilled concrete piers, remove the old foundation, and build a new foundation. It's a super risky endeavor. It's also time consuming and take a ton of work. Here's a time lapse video to give you an idea.

This is basically what's happening in Genesis 15. Abraham's faith is vacillating again. It's been years since God's initial promise to bless Abraham with a son. God, where's my son? Where's my blessing? Can I trust your Word and your promise with the full weight of my existence? Abraham's foundation of faith is shaking. God shows up, and begins the laborious process of foundation replacement. Join us tomorrow as we study one of the most important chapters in all of Holy Scripture.

With Love,

Pastor Jan
