Kindness is Love Helping

Dear Mosaic Family,

"I'm not religious; I'm spiritual." Have you heard someone say something along those lines? Over the years, I've met a lot of deeply spiritual people, and I've read books about many more. The most spiritual people never create this false dichotomy between religion and spirituality.

To be truly spiritual, is to be filled with God Himself, with His Holy Spirit. To be filled with the Spirit, to be led by the Spirit, to walk in lock-step with the Spirit takes a lot of "religious" work, like prayer, fasting, Scripture meditation and memorization, devotion to the church. To be spiritual is to be devoted to God, and devotion to God demands sacrifice and self-denial. This is the idea behind the name of our sermon series through the fruit of the Holy Spirit: to produce a harvest of love, you must crucify the flesh and it's primarily self-oriented desires.

I've been contending that there are 8 fruit of the Holy Spirit, not 9. Love isn't just one of the fruit, it's each of the fruit, because each fruit is one of the demonstrations of love in action. This week we turn our attention to kindness, which is love helping.

Χρηστότης is translated as “kindness” in most English translations of the Bible, which is not a wrong translation, but a more precise translation for χρηστότης is a person who is useful or helpful.

Because you’re kind, you’re useful, helpful. How can I be more useful? How can I be more helpful to more people? How can I provide more value to the people in my life? Benevolent people are super helpful.

Join us Sunday as we'll meditate on cultivating kindness.

Galatians 5:22-24 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires."

Looking forward to worshiping with you!

Pastor Jan

Fundraising Goal

Right now, our church has a big goal—to raise $5 million for our own worship space. We believe every tongue will confess and every knee will bow to Jesus Christ. That’s why we want to establish a permanent church home in a global city, where God’s people from far and wide can learn about the living God. Visit here if you would like to know more or donate to this goal.
