Nothing More Important than Safety

Dear Mosaic Family,

Everyone is religious. Your god is what you orient your whole life around. Your god is your center. Nothing is more important than your god. If nothing is more important than safety, then safety is your god.

The biggest idol of our day is safety. Safety is branded as the greatest good. It is not. Safety isn't a virtue. Virtues are all self-denying, never self-protective. Living for Safety makes people cowards. Why? Because living for Safety is actually living for self. Sacrificing everything for safety's sake is the most selfish thing you can do. Heroes and Legends are not forged by sacrificing everything for personal safety; they are forged by sacrificing personal safety for the good of others.

If there is nothing more important than safety, then you will always live in fear. You will always be on guard against any unsafe spaces or situations. You will sacrifice anything and everything for safety's sake. You make more sacrifices for Safety than you do for God. The more you worship Safety, the more insane her demands for sacrifice become. But she keeps saying: "I'm here to keep you safe. Trust me." So many keep believing and sacrificing, freedom after freedom.

In today’s world, safety has paralyzed many Christians, keeping them from fulfilling God’s commandments and calling. The world wants you to think safety is worth basing your entire life around. But it’s not. Only Christ is.

The Lord does not promise a safe life. In fact, He promises the opposite. Jesus doesn't call us to safety, He calls us to wage spiritual warfare, and wars are anything but safe.

The commandment repeated most often in Scripture is: do not fear. Therefore, the only fear that isn’t sin, is fear of God. Fear God and fear not.

If you want to live a life of safety, stay away from Jesus. He might call you to deny self and take up a cross. He might call you suffer and actually, really, physically die for someone. He might call you to live for something greater than safety.

God is King, reclaiming what is His. He’s a good God. But He isn’t safe. Not toward His enemies. Sacrifice anything and everything to be found in God's will, the only truly safe space in an unsafe world.

Join us tomorrow as we hear from a God who calls us to infinitely more than safety, from 2 Corinthians 6.

Praying for you!

Pastor Jan
