Driven to be Generous

Dear Mosaic Family,

Jesus Christ was driven to be generous. Are you?

Do you know what it means to be a driven person? It means the opposite of "being driven." If you get in an Uber, you are "being driven." If you get in the driver's seat, you are now driving yourself. Being driven means you drive yourself where you want to go.

How do you become a driven person? You get tired of being where you are, you get in the driver's seat, you grab the wheel, hit the gas, and drive yourself somewhere better.

Driven. Compelled. Motivated. By whom? In the flesh, you're driven by yourself, for yourself. In the Spirit, you're driven by a zeal to glorify the Lord and bless people.

I know lots of Christians who are driven to deepen their faith, driven to know God and His Word. Which is great, of course! But Holy Scripture is absolutely clear: faith without works is dead. Why? Because our life must flow out of our faith. Thus, in 2 Corinthians 8:7 we read "But as you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all earnestness, and in our love for you—see that you excel in this act of grace also." What act of grace? He's talking about being generous with our wealth, specifically to meeting the needs of the family of God. The Apostle Paul wants to plant the same Christ-like vision for driven generosity in your heart.

"For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich." (2 Corinthians 8:9).

Do you have a vision for generosity? Are you driven to be generous? If so, what steps are you taking to make the vision reality? I ask that you pray about this question.

Join us tomorrow as we study 2 Corinthians 8, and bring your thinking caps.

Praying for you!

Pastor Jan
