Seeking Paradise without God

Dear Mosaic Family,

We live in a society, which grows more secular and godless by the day. We've divorced God from gender, sexuality, family. We've kicked God out of schools. We've ostracized God from the universities. Thou shalt not mention God in the workplace. God has been banished from the public square and political life.

We've attempted to remove God, and instead of finding freedom, we've found chaos. So what to do with the chaos? We turn to ourselves to fix our mess. We'll create paradise on our own. We'll create heaven on earth without God. How's that going?

There is no heaven without God. Wherever God is, there is heaven. Wherever God is not, there is hell. Satan tempted Adam and Eve with the same vision: reject God, keep paradise. Instead, they were banished from God's presence, thereby losing paradise. There is no paradise without the presence of God, because God's presence is paradise.

Join us tomorrow as we turn our attention to Genesis 13, where Abraham gives lots the pick of the land. Scripture says, "Lot lifted up his eyes and saw that the Jordan Valley was well watered everywhere like the garden of the Lord..." Lot chose the paradisiacal green fields surrounding Sodom and Gomorrah. He left Abraham, the covenant community of believers, the Word of God, the alters built to God (church), in search of prosperity. Blinded by greed, He couldn't see the danger of seeking paradise apart from God. So many deep lessons for us all, to walk by faith and not merely by sight.

With Love,

Pastor Jan
