Eating & Easter

Dear Mosaic Family,

"Got anything to eat?"

A very common question.
What made it uncommon was who said it.
What made it more uncommon was when He said it.

In Luke 24, the disciples have locked themselves in a room, afraid of the same authorities who crucified Jesus, coming to do the same to them. The door is locked. But so are their minds.

Then, seemingly out of nowhere, the Resurrected Lord appears. The disciples get freaked out. They thought it was a ghost. You'd freak out too. You'd also assume it was a ghost. Why? Because you have the ghost category in your mind. The disciples certainly didn't have the "Resurrection" category in their minds. Why not? After spending three years with Jesus, seeing all His miracles, hearing all His teaching, hearing Him repeat time and again: I will die and rise again; why didn't they have the Resurrection category in their minds?

Because their minds were locked. Not that they weren't intelligent. Intelligence isn't how we come to know God. Revelation is. So how does Jesus unlock their minds and give them spiritual sight? He asks for food.

"Got anything to eat?" They gave him broiled fish. He eats it. Proving He has a real, physical body and that "it is I myself." Then he gave them a sermon and "opened their minds to understand the Scriptures." In the same way He walked through a locked door, He walks through their locked minds.

I pray this Easter, Jesus opens our minds to understand the Scriptures, meet the Risen Christ, and eat with Him in blessed fellowship.
