Jesus, please save our city

Dear Mosaic Family,

The story of Abraham is a story of spiritual growth. Sure, there's ebbs and flows in his walk with the Lord. Sure, there's bouts with doubt. But God meets Abraham and Sarah in times of doubt, and gives them His Word, over and over, until they believe it and Him.

In Genesis 18, we see God meet Abraham once again. God reiterates His promise of sending Abraham and Sarah a son, once again. Both Abraham and Sarah have laughed at the absolutely ridiculous proposition that a man in his nineties and a woman in her eighties will have a child. But God laughs back, and tells them to name their son "Isaac," which means "He laughs." He does. God always gets the last laugh.

But before the son comes, God wants to teach Abraham that spiritual growth always leads to concern for the souls of other people. God, you saved me, but what about my family? What about my friends? What about my neighbors? What about my city?

The Lord takes Abraham to Sodom and says, "Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do...because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great and their sin is very grave..."

God invites Abraham into the conversation about what to do with Sodom and Gomorrah. Their sins deserve judgment. Unlike Jonah, Abraham doesn't sit back and hope to watch the city burn. Instead, he begins to intercede for the city. He begins to pray for the city. He begs God to save the city. At Mosaic Boston, we do the same. God, please save many in this city. God please use us to get the Good News out. The Good News, that thanks to Jesus, when we turn from sin, and trust in Him, our sins are forgiven.

With Love,

Pastor Jan
