We Preach Christ Crucified
Dear Mosaic Family,
Jesus Christ is the greatest revolutionary who ever lived. In 3 years, Jesus changed the world. He lived, He died, He was buried, He rose from the dead, He ascended to heaven. His disciples, eyewitnesses to everything, obeyed His commandment to make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. They preached the message. They spoke words about the Word. They preached the Gospel. They preached Christ Crucified. This was enough to change the world. It's still enough.
Christianity, the greatest global movement in history, started during one of the most barbaric times to be alive. For entertainment purposes, the Roman authorities would arrest Christians, and throw them into arenas, where tens of thousands of spectators gathered to see the "show". Trapdoors in the floor of the arena were opened, and half-starved lions, bears, wild boars and leopards rushed into the arena. The crowd would erupt with laughter and applause as the Christians were torn to pieces by the savage animals, released by savage humans.
The authorities condemned Christian men, women, and children to such public death by beasts with the obvious hope that the speckle would be so horrifying and humiliating that no one would convert to Christianity. However, the public testimony of Christians facing this brutal death with grace, power, fearlessness, and humility made Christianity ever more intriguing. These people aren't afraid of death? Why? What do they know that gives them such steel courage? They knew the secret to life and eternal life. What's that secret? Christ crucified.
Join us tomorrow as we continue our "Love. Jesus. Simple." series studying why Jesus is at the heart of all we do as a church. We'll be studying 1 Corinthians 1:18-2:5 where the Apostle Paul lays out the master plan for global revolution: "We preach Christ crucified."
Praying for you!
Pastor Jan
