Newsletter: Pay Attention to God

Dear Mosaic Family,

In Isaiah 66:2, the Lord says, "But this is the one to whom I will look: he who is humble and contrite in spirit and trembles at my word." The Lord pays particular attention to those who pay particular attention to His Word. The Lord looks with a particular gaze upon those who humbly receive His word and seek to obey Him with fear and trembling.

At the end of Mark 3, Jesus points to those sitting at his feet, listening to the word of God, and says: "Here are my mother and my brothers! For whoever does the will of God, he is my brother and sister and mother."

Who is part of the Kingdom of Christ? Who is part of the family of God? Those who attentively listen to God's word, in order to listen to (obey) God. If you truly hear God's word, if you humbly accept it into your heart, if you allow the seed of the word to germinate and take root, you will bear fruit for the Lord, thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold. The four types of soil in the parable represent four different hearts and their receptivity to the word of God: the hard heart, the shallow heart, the overcluttered heart, and the good heart. Only the fourth soil is fruitful; therefore only the fourth heart is born again.

I pray the Lord gives each of us ears to hear His word, and tender hearts to receive it. I also pray the Lord makes the soils of our hearts as fruitful as possible. In the parable of the Barren Fig Tree in Luke 13, Jesus tells of man who goes to a fig tree planted in his vineyard, seeking fruit. When he found none, he tells the vinedresser, "Cut it down, Why should it use up the ground?" The vinedresser answered, "Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and put on manure." Sometimes the Lord allows the manure of our lives to make the soils of our hearts more receptive to His word, more obedient to His will, and more useful in His Kingdom.
