Newsletter: The King Came to Preach

Dear Mosaic Family,

As we turn to Mark 1:16-39, we see King Jesus begin to build His Kingdom by calling disciples, casting out demons, healing the sick, and preaching. As his reputation for healing and exorcisms began to spread, we see a definitive pause, where Jesus wakes up early, while it was still dark, He goes out to a desolate place, and there he prayed. Simon (later renamed Peter by Jesus), finds Jesus and said, "Everyone is looking for you."

Why were they looking for Him? Did they want to follow him as disciples? Did they want to repent of their sins and be welcomed into the Kingdom of God? No. The sick wanted physical healing. The demon-possessed wanted to be freed of demons. So Jesus tells Simon, "Let us go on to the next towns, that I may preach there also, for that is why I came out."

King Jesus came into a world ruled Satan, who wields control over people, not primarily through sickness and demon-possession, but primarily through lies about God, His Word, and His World. Therefore, the Apostle Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 4:3-4, "And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God."

Since Satan has blinded minds with lies, King Jesus comes wielding the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. The Word of God slices through the lies of the Evil one, renews our minds, regenerates our hearts, and transforms our lives. The Kingdom of Jesus is an inside-out Kingdom. The King takes the throne of your heart, and from there wields control over every square inch of your life.

Looking forward to worshiping with you!
